Bob Geldof

Musician and activist

Bob Geldof is perhaps the most prominent philanthropic activist in recent decades. Rising to recognition as lead singer of the Boomtown Rats, he founded the charity supergroup Band Aid in 1984 and organised the charity concert Live Aid the following year in response to the famine in Ethiopia. These raised over £150million for famine relief and economic development across Africa, and in 1986 Bob was awarded an honorary knighthood for his charity work. He is a recipient of the Man of Peace title, along with numerous other awards and nominations.
