Claire Foster-Gilbert is Director of Westminster Abbey Institute.

Claire has a background in ethics, regulation and public theology. She lectures regularly in ethics, and is a member of the British Medical Association’s medical ethics committee.

She was Research Fellow at the Centre of Medical Law and Ethics, King’s College, London, then the National Policy Adviser for Science, Medicine, Technology & Environmental Issues in the Church of England until 2008. She was a Lay Canon of St Paul’s Cathedral where she co-founded its Institute in 2003.

She has held non-executive positions with bodies including the Gene Therapy Advisory Committee, the Royal Society's Science in Society Committee, and the 10 Downing Street coalition on climate change. She has published widely in the field of medical ethics and environmental theology.
