Paula Akpan

Journalist and historian

Paula Akpan is a journalist, speaker and co-founding director of Black Girl Festival, an arts and culture festival celebrating black women, girls and non-binary people through a large-scale annual event and year-long initiatives. A sociology graduate from the University of Nottingham, Paula’s work – journalism and through her festival – mainly focuses on race, queerness and social politics and she regularly writes for a variety of publications including Teen Vogue, the Independent, Stylist, Bustle, i-D, Al Jazeera and more.
