10 reasons to host a winter wedding

RSA House blog

Over the past years, winter weddings have become a popular choice for couples-to-be. Nothing compares to a romantic winter London wedding.

Here at RSA House we have certainly seen an increase in the number of requests for winter weddings. So, we have pulled together a list of reasons why you should consider getting hitched at the most wonderful time of the year!

  1. The weather is not going to impact in any way the outcome of your wedding. It doesn’t matter if the sun is shining, the rain is falling or if it’s cold and windy; RSA House will have the perfect atmosphere to welcome your guests and the Benjamin Franklin Room and Great Room will look spectacular regardless.
  2. Not having to prepare for weather changes certainly eliminates a potential stressful situation! For a summer wedding, if you book a venue with the intent of using outdoor space, you will have to take into consideration all the possible factors meaning you always have to consider a plan B. When you plan a winter wedding at RSA House, you can relax and know you have exclusive use of all the beautiful spaces for your day.
  3. It is very common for venues to be beautifully decorated for the festive season. From the smell of fresh Christmas trees, to festive fireplace arrangements to recreate a winter wonderland atmosphere, the options for Winter wedding décor are endless. All these elements mean you can save a good amount of money to invest in other aspects of your wedding without going over budget. At RSA House we work with our florist suppliers to decorate our beautiful staircase which features 19th century mosaics, with a real garland and a wonderfully large Christmas tree just under the stairs. The Vaults are also decorated to make the venue even more magical for a day to remember.  Wedding couple on the staircase with Christmas decoration
  4. For many suppliers, Winter is considered “off season”. This means they often have more availability and sometimes can offer better deals. While florists can take more than one wedding per day, photographers, entertainers, bands and DJs can just take one booking at the time. Choosing to host your wedding during a quieter month will help you get a wider range of options.
  5. The magic of Christmas will create a beautiful backdrop for your pictures. All the lights, colours and decorations will set a mood of joy and happiness everywhere. If you are lucky enough and snowflakes decide to cooperate, you might even be able to have your pictures taken in a beautiful snowy setting. When you celebrate your wedding at RSA House you can easily reach iconic landmarks and magic locations with Christmassy vibes perfect for your photos -The Strand, Covent Garden and the London Eye as a backdrop, for example.
  6. The colour scheme and the flowers in season are different from the ones we are used to seeing at summer weddings. Dusty blues and whites, marigolds and creams, mists and whites are just a few combinations you can choose to make your special day look beautiful. Winter is the season to welcome beautiful flowers which are less familiar and more unique for your day, like camellias, anemones and ranunculus.Wedding table centrepiece in the Great Room
  7. Delicious treats and bespoke elements can be wonderful elements to add to your special day. A glass of mulled wine is a great way to start your reception and a hot chocolate stall is the perfect way to end your party. You can create a homely atmosphere with the most amazing comforting winter food created by our chefs and surprise your guests with a mince pie at the end.
  8. Winter is a season of celebrations. From the magic of Christmas to the romance of Valentine’s Day, everyone will have a feeling of joy and love that will make them appreciate your special day even more.  Don’t forget that choosing a less common time of the year means that your guests will not have too many weddings to attend and the festive season means that celebrations can be extended! There is no better feeling than continuing your wedding celebrations and reliving the best day of your life.
  9. Don’t underestimate the beauty of long sleeve wedding dresses and all the accessories a bride can chose to keep warm and cosy and still look wonderful. Faux fur jacket wraps, hooded cloak capes and shawls are just some ideas. They could match your wedding dress or add a little touch of colour to the bridal outfit.Strand photoshoot
  10. If you are dreaming of a honeymoon overseas, winter is an ideal time to consider. The weather is beautiful in many destinations over the winter months, so you will get to enjoy every moment without worrying about the monsoon season. Just imagine how great it would be to escape from low temperatures to lay in the sun on a sandy beach, snorkel on the coral reef or experience new adventures around the world.
