DfL Coffeehouse Series: Prosperous Places, an international perspective
The purpose of this discussion forum is to explore issues of social inclusion from projects in the UK, led by the RSA, and in the Czech Republic, the latter funded by the Czech government and European Union. Both are working to produce structures which aim to achieve positive change within communities in relation to economic and social circumstances arising from industrial, technological, and economic change.
It will examine some of the key factors in relation to how we might develop ‘Prosperous Places’ in not only economic and employment arenas but also issues of social and social cohesion and achievement for groups who are disadvantaged and disempowered within our current social and economic structures. In addition, as another part of this project, technical and commercial areas are being worked on by a partner university, the Technical University of Ostrava.
We are keen to explore ideas and strategies of mutual interest and possible progress concerning inclusion of everybody in our countries to increase prosperity and social cohesion in different ways, with a particular focus in relation to the Ostrava team’s expertise of increasing social inclusion by way of coproduction with particular groups, for example people with mental health challenges, and Roma communities.
The forum will have short presentations by RSA’s Prosperous Places team and members of the University of Ostrava’s REFRESH Social Lab research team, with the aim of exploring each other’s experiences and ideas for possibilities and identifying similarities and differences of how we can learn from our separate work and plans.
