This month we welcome our new Network Engagement Coordinator, Angela Robertson. Working with Head of RSA Scotland Jamie Cooke, Angela’s role is to support the activities of Fellows, create closer connections within the network, and help the delivery of events across the country. Angela explains more below..

I am excited to take up this position because it is an opportunity to shout about the great things that are already happening within RSA Scotland, and to help Fellows turn more of their ideas into actions.

In a practical sense this will mean:

If you have an event, you can come to me for support.  I have a wealth of experience in creating and delivering small and large scale events.  It’s something I love to do.  I have worked with authors, academics, scientists, journalists, musicians, artists and even demanding celebrities.  Whether it’s shaping the format of your event, or promoting it to other Fellows, I can help.  I will also be helping Jamie Cooke with the delivery of keynote RSA Scotland events, including the Angus Millar Lecture, RSA Engage series and the Annual Conference.  Expect to hear more on these soon.

If you have an idea for a project that you wish to get off the ground, and could benefit from the skills and experience of other Fellows, I can connect you to the right people.  I aim to foster deeper connections between Fellows so we have a greater understanding of who we are and what can happen when we work together.

I will be responsible for making sure our website is fully up-to-date and a place where we can showcase the great work of RSA Scotland, from events and projects to the latest news and blog posts.  I will also be delivering a regular newsletter and posting on social media.  If you have something to shout about, tell me.  We want to share your news and welcome ideas for blog posts.

And finally, collaboration and creating partnerships is central to the work of the RSA.  I would love to hear your ideas about who we should be working with and why.

I am your first port of call for Fellowship enquiries in Scotland and as an opportunity to connect you to other Fellows and our resources.  I looking forward to hearing from you.

Angela’s bio:
I am a PR and events professional who has worked within publishing, the arts and not-for-profit sectors for over 20 years.   Within my role as Communications Director at Canongate Books I had the pleasure of promoting a diverse range of authors on everything from mental health, neuroscience and psychology to society, music and literature. I have a wealth of event experience from curating events at literary and science festivals across Scotland and the UK, to creating ‘ideas’ salons at the Barbican and the House of St Barnabas in London.  I also cofounded Book Slam, London’s first and biggest ‘literary cabaret’ night where authors and poets share the stage with musicians, and fantastic new collaborations were created.  In 2016 I set up my own PR and events consultancy, Good Thinking, working with many different publishers, and in 2018 I founded Edinburgh Wellbeing Festival, the first of its kind in Scotland.
