Decolonising is a term that means different things in different places. Hear real examples from people doing this work in the design world.

What does decolonising (design) actually mean? How can you do it and how do you begin? We don't believe there is one way to begin doing this work as this will shift across locations, sectors, and geographies. We do believe that beginning to share actions that people are beginning to take and spreading learnings is the best way to create seeds of change in multiple places.

Join us for an open discussion with individuals who have begun to try and do this work where they are, however they can. Each speaker will share an example of the work they are currently doing, followed by a Q&A. The space will remain open after the event for additional informal discussion and networking. This is an in-person event at RSA House.

George Aye of Greater Good Studio on design ethics and why these are essential to develop as a designer to protect against conflicted priorities and ensure you do not cause harm.

Sarah Campbell is the Associate Director for Arts and Culture at the University of Exeter and will speak about their work in the arts and university context.

The Decolonizing Design Coalition is a group of designers across the globe committed to sourcing, synthesizing, and amplifying a global set of principles that can be used to decolonize the design ethos of your particular cultural, institutional, professional context. They are not experts but willing practitioners and open to learn. The group began meeting in 2021 and is working on finalising a toolkit and principles this year. If you are interested in finding out more about the coaltion or to be apart of it please email: [email protected] with the subject line "Decolonising Design Coalition Information".
