If so, you can't afford to miss an inspirational evening of talks at the Croydon Conference Centre. The main speaker will be Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison, owner of RISE Gallery, who has earned a reputation of 'the man who singlehandedly changed Croydon'. More information about the gallery and the work that Kevin and the team do can be found below.
This event is free to attend, but please book your place at the top of this page. We look forward to seeing you there.
Location: Croydon Conference Centre, 5-9, Surrey Street, Croydon, CR0 1RG
Following the talks there will be an opportunity to network with other guests, and find out more about the RSA and the development of a new Croydon Network.
Guests will also be able to visit the RISE Gallery between 8.30pm - 9.30pm.
About the Gallery
RISE gallery (and subsequently the Croydon Arts Quarter) was established in an otherwise unloved part of Croydon just over a year ago, as a commercial enterprise with a social conscience. At that time St George's Walk, once a beautiful shopping parade since the early sixties, became a place best avoided at all times after years of neglect.
The public art scheme has transformed the area. A prime example is St George's Walk itself, where footfall has increased by 400%.
Since RISE opened its doors, the space has functioned as a channel for the borough’s creative community to showcase and promote their work. RISE gallery facilitates the Croydon Arts Quarter: an initiative that allows local street artists to paint for free in public spaces.
This means that artists are able to tap into a huge audience given the extensive foot traffic that the town center enjoys, while also exposing local residents to some fantastic art regardless of age, race, or creed. We also exhibit many local artists alongside those very well established in the gallery itself – a key theme for everything we do here at RISE being inclusion.
Founder and director, Kevin Zuchowski-Morrison has also set up his own charity, ArtHalo. At RISE we believe in the pivotal role of art as a catalyst for social change. ArtHalo provides art workshops and courses for vulnerable adults to support creativity and independent learning. RISE gallery, and its associated projects, act at the heart of Croydon’s social and cultural landscape.
Location: RISE gallery, 7-9 St George's Walk, Croydon, CR0 1YH
