Join the RSA Islington Network for this local historic tour of Highbury, led by Samir Singh FRSA.
Samir is a keen local history enthusiast who has worked for the Islington Museum before moving to Arsenal FC as part of their Arsenal in the Community team to set up their museum. Once he set up the museum at Arsenal FC, he was museum curator from 2005-2014. He still works for the Club in a community outreach role. From 2004-2006, he was assistant museum curator at Islington Museum. Islington history is his passion. He is a committee member of Islington Archaeology and History Society and a member of the deciding committee for heritage plaques for the borough.
The walk focuses on the history of the village of Highbury and its development from Roman times to the present day. The walk covers Highbury Corner, Highbury and Islington station, Highbury Place, Highbury Fields, Highbury Terrace, Highbury Barn, Highbury Hill and the Arsenal Stadium, Highbury. The walk finishes with a tour of Emirates Stadium which is a chance to see behind the scenes. The history walk lasts an hour and a half and the stadium tour one hour. Visiting the Arsenal Museum afterwards is an optional extra.
We will meet outside Highbury & Islington Station at 10:00 from where Samir will lead a walk, bringing the history of Highbury vividly to life.
