This partner-led event with RIO, Fotonow, and the RSA South West Fellowship encompasses the opening of an exhibition by David Partner FRSA, The Mayor's Chains.

Come along to hear from Peter Macfayden and David Partner, as well as Plymouth social entrepreneurs, as they explore community leadership in the 21st century. The event will include a drinks reception and the opportunity to network.

With austerity set to increase and deepen for the foreseeable future, the public sector, governmental structures, and community services are undeniably in retreat. Set within the context of Plymouth - a nationally celebrated social enterprise city - and the recently launched community business programme, we'll be asking who leads communities now.

In 2015, faced with ongoing inaction from the town council, local social entrepreneurs made a decision, took responsibility to act for themselves, and ran a successful campaign as Independents, taking over the leadership of their council.

The Mayor's Chain photo series helps break down the barriers between politics and people, engaging the same humour, social enterprise, and collaboration that Peter Macfayden deployed during his year as Frome’s Mayor. It is an insightful commentary on localism and grass roots politics.

Book your place now. Tickets are free and refreshments will be provided.
