The second Common Treasury of Adaptable Ideas showcase event is coming to Hastings on Thursday, 24 October.

You’re invited to come and hear great speakers and the inspiring ideas they’ve contributed to thriving communities elsewhere. This time, there will be an emphasis on the circular economy, with a focus on reducing waste and sharing resources.

Featured ideas include the Library of Things as well as the Onion Collective, which is exploring bio-recycling waste into positive products. We will also hear from the founders of the Bevy community pub in Brighton and Rob Hopkins, founder of the Transition Town movement, talking about the power of imagination.

The first Common Treasury showcase in April inspired the initiation of Hastings’ first Fun Palace (5 October at Ore Community Centre), as well as the guerilla gardening that’s now popping up all over town. The West Marina group are working on a neighbourhood plan, inspired by the determination of Hazel Tilley (Granby4Streets, Liverpool), to reclaim their streets for the community. Local teacher, Bob Johnston, is developing The Makings, a collaborative workspace for local people to share ideas as well as tools, inspired by Melissa Mean’s account of the Knowle West media Centre in Bristol.

We can’t wait to hear what great ideas come out of this event!

The Common Treasury is a year-long project introducing successful community business ideas from elsewhere to Hastings. It aims to support and empower people to take the ideas forward and adapt them in Hastings. The Common Treasury is generously supported by RSA South East, funded by Power to Change, and hosted by Energise Sussex Coast, Jericho Road Solutions and Transition Town Hastings.

This event is being led by The Common Treasury, a partner organisation collaborating with RSA South East.  Please note that as The Common Treasury are managing the ticketing process, you will be directed externally to sign up and that your data will be held by them.

If you have any specific access requirements, please email by 9 October – hello@commontreasury.org.uk. Please also let them know if you have any dietary requirements or severe allergies.

Location: St Mary in the Castle, 7 Pelham Place, Hastings, TN34 3AE
